"Love the Living" -- part of a group exhibit May 5-June 22, 2024 in Fort Lauderdale

My recent work will be part of a group show on the first floor of the New River Inn history museum. Come by to see this exhibit any time the museum is open: 10am-4pm daily. Let the person at the front desk that you're just coming to see the art, and you won't be charged museum admission. My studio is on the 3rd floor -- feel free to visit me there noon-4pm Saturdays or by appointment.

Map & species guide for utility box wraps in downtown Fort Lauderdale

Below is a map of the downtown area, followed by a list of species depicted on each utility box. The whole collection is called "Love is All Around." I'm happy to announce that I've been chosen to design 16 utility box wraps for downtown Fort Lauderdale. Below is a press release from the Downtown Development Authority, and some renderings from my original proposal. I've been working hard on drawing these, and have 7 done so far.   Hello. This list is a current reflection of my own evolving process of attempting to relate better within the web of life. My personal understanding and efforts are shaped by my history as a descendant of European settlers on Turtle Island, raised within capitalism/imperialism which systematically conquers, genocides, exploits, commodifies, and forcibly disconnects its subjects from land. Exhibition at New River Inn museum, April 6-26, 2023

(See event listing on ArtsCalendar.com) As part of a group exhibition of work by six Artists-in-Residents at the New River Inn museum at History Fort Lauderdale, Stephanie McMillan will present 30 digital drawings of local plants and wildlife, created with affection in her colorful and charming signature style. Since October, she has been placing free prints of these drawings around the Fort Lauderdale area for people to find and take home. "We Live Here Too" project

"We Live Here Too" is a collection of digital drawings of local plants and wildlife, labeled with their names. My purpose in creating them is to encourage appreciation for the beautiful web of life that surrounds us and that we are part of. By learning the names of different species, saying hello when we see them, and getting to know them better as friends and kin, perhaps we'll be moved to find ways of being more effective about protecting them from the many threats they face.
